Ward co-ordinators in lawmaker domain complain of marginalization
Ward co-ordinators in Akamkpa 2 State Constituency in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State have complained of being side-lined by the campaign team of the member representing Akamkpa/Biase Federal constituency in the lower House of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo aka “DANSUKI” is contesting the Senate slot in the Cross River State Southern Senatorial District under the Labour Party platform.
This was disclosed in a chat with LENS Reporter on Saturday in Calabar by Pastor (Dr.) Franklin Egbe, a chieftain of the Labour Party in Cross River State and a former chapter chairman of the party in Akamkpa Local Government Area, 2015-2022,
Egbe who decamped to the Labour party from the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 with Senator Prince Bassey Otu and Hon. Mkpanam Obo contested for the Senate seat in the Cross River State Southern Senatorial District and Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency while Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo contested for the governorship position in the 2015 general elections.
In his contribution, a visibly angry member who is a critical stakeholder said they are mostly not happy with the undemocratic replacement of the ebullient woman leader Ms Pamela Ita without recourse to due process and laid down party guidelines by Dansuki’s stooge which has caused bad blood and capable of diminishing his chances in the 2023 elections.
Another party stalwart who spoke on condition of anonymity said the problem started during the formation of the new Labour Party Akamkpa chapter executive and ward excos when Dr. Ekpe travelled to Ghana to defend his PhD thesis giving room to the decampees led by Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo usurped power and destroy the former Labour Party structure in the constituency considered to have the voting strength in the Akamkpa council area.
Egbe who is the coordinator of the Obi-Datti/obidients movement for Dansuki however appealed for calm and promised to channel their grievances to Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo whom he said had a listening ear and would address the anomaly in the party before the commencement of campaigns for 2023 general elections to avert anti-party activities among aggrieved members of the party.
He vowed to deliver the Akamkpa 2 state constituency which holds the magic wand to winning elections in the zone comprising of Ojuk North, Ojuk-south, Oban, Eku and Ikpai wards to Daniel Asuquo to guarantee his victory at the polls in 2023 as Senator-elect for Cross River State Southern Senatorial District.
