‘Wike’s loyalty lies with his own aspirations, not party unity’_ Momodu taunts him of eyeing Tinubu’s 2027 exit, others

The former presidential candidate and PDP chieftain Dele Momodu has accused Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and his associates of orchestrating a crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

According to Momodu, the group’s intentions are aimed at influencing the 2027 presidential race.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Momodu said, “Truth is constant, they have never hidden their mission in the ongoing struggle in the PDP.”

He suggested that Wike’s faction within the PDP hopes President Bola Tinubu will not seek re-election, positioning themselves to use the PDP as a platform to contest the presidency.

“They’re hoping that somewhere along the line, Tinubu will not run in 2027, and then they’ll hold PDP down and use it because they know APC will never give them their platform,” he remarked.

Despite his ministerial role in Tinubu’s APC-led administration, Wike has publicly committed to remaining within the PDP.

Momodu, however, claims Wike’s loyalty lies with his own aspirations rather than party unity.

“Everybody knows. Even members of the APC, they know that these guys are playing games,” he said, suggesting that both APC and PDP insiders are aware of Wike’s antics.

Momodu’s comments reflects on the ongoing tensions within the PDP, sparking renewed debate over political alliances and ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Recall Wike had earlier voiced his stance at a PDP congress in Port Harcourt, vowing to disrupt any PDP governor attempting to influence Rivers State politics.

“They said we are finished. They are finished. Let me assure all of you that not when we live that anybody will take the structure of this party away from us. I hear that there are some governors who said they will take the structure of the party and give to somebody.

“I pity those governors because I will put fire in their state. When God has given you peace, you said you don’t want peace. Then whatever you see you take. I hear they made some money from this signature bonus and as such they want to put hand in my state. Prepare to take whatever you see because I have the capacity.

“I have the capacity to do the same thing in your own state. Whether you are from Bauchi, I don’t give a damn. Your hands will get burnt. You will never sleep in your state. You will see political crisis in your state. When I start don’t say I am the one destroying PDP.

Meanwhile, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has responded to the recent threat by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, which warned Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors against interfering in Rivers State’s politics.

Fayose, speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, said that governors who fully control their states have no reason to fear outside threats.

“As a sitting Governor, when I was Governor of Ekiti State, I had nothing to hide,” he stated. “If a governor or former governor says he will put fire in my state, it is either I am not strong at home, or I have lost control in my state.”

According to Fayose, a governor’s confidence and firm grip on their state prevent interference from political figures like Wike, known for his assertive style.

He noted that robust leadership renders such threats ineffective: “You can tell my position. The moment you have a grip of your state, you have nothing to fear. But the moment you don’t have a grip on your state, obviously, you have a lot in your hand to face.”

Fayose’s comments suggest that strong, capable governance is essential to countering such challenges, highlighting the need for PDP governors to maintain a clear command within their domains.
