Youth Ambassador advocates skill acquisition for children of fallen soldiers in Cross River

Cross River State Governor Senator Bassey Otu and other stakeholders have paid tribute to fallen Nigerian soldiers who laid down their lives to defend the sovereignty of the nation.

The ceremony is held on15th day of January every year. In Cross River, the event which witnessed the display of military parade was held on Wednesday January 15, 2025, at the Millennium Park in Calabar.

Represented by his Deputy, Rt. Honorable Peter Odey, Otu who was the special guest of honor said the labor of the fallen heroes will not be in vain and the government will play its part in supporting the families of the deceased soldiers.

Meanwhile, the Cross River State Youth Ambassador on Skills Development and Certification and Managing Director of Benco Welding and Fabrication Work, Engr. Bernard S. Jessey has called for training of children of departed ex-servicemen to acquire requisite skills that will rob-off on their wellbeing and their families.

Jessey, while fielding questions from newsmen at the venue of the 2025 laying of Remembrance Wreath Ceremony on Wednesday at the Millennium Park Cenotaph in Calabar, said government should do the needful by fashioning a wholistic skill Development Programme for children of the departed ex-servicemen given the harsh economic condition in the country and the enormous burden on the shoulders of widows of our fallen heroes. This, he reason would curb youth restiveness among children of the fallen soldiers.

It would be recalled that Engr. Jessey has been involved in training and building the capacity of youths in the State in stanchion, installation, steel roofing, water project, pipeline networking and general metal working.
