Youth movement urges presidency to halt terrorist activities, supports southern president in 2023
The Niger Delta Youth Movement (NDYM), has urged the Presidency to sum up courage and political will at ensuring that the heinous activities of terrorists in the country is diminished.
This was contained in it communique issued at the end of its National Executive meeting held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, signed by, Comrades Amutadi Uba Tega and Ediagbonya Joshua, National President, and Secretary respectively, and made available to journalists in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital yesterday.
The Youth Movement which is an umbrella body of youths in the nine states making up the Niger Delta region, condemned in strong terms, the bombing and killings of passengers on the Kaduna/Abuja train as well as the invasion of Kaduna International airport by terrorists and urge the Presidency to stem this vicious cycle.
“NEC calls on all security agencies and indeed the entire citizenry to be very vigilant and proactive against the proliferation of firearms in the region as a prelude to the forthcoming 2023 general elections”.
According to the youth body, the main essence of the NEC meeting was to take stock of recent happenings in the country as it affects the region and it’s youth and threw its weight behind the clarion calls that, in 2023, the President of the country should emerge from the Southern part of the country.
“For the purpose of PEACE in Nigeria, NDYM is in total support of Southern Governors and the Middle Belt Forum for the Country’s Presidency to shift to Southern Nigeria”.
The movement commended the minister for Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for his commitment and determination to ensuring that, the East-west road in the region is completed but added that, “While commending the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs Senator Godswill Akpabio on the seriousness he is giving to Eastwest Road we urge him to extend such gesture to cover another core mandate of the Ministry.
“NDYM urges the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to partner with relevant agencies within and outside Nigeria in giving assistance to Ukrainian Returnees from the region.
“The new leadership of NDYM commends the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs and the Interim Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC for the synergy and tireless efforts in fostering relative peace in the Region”.
On the forthcoming elections, the Youth Movement said, “In the light of controversies surrounding Permanent Voters Card, NDYM calls on INEC to intensify local sensitization of the youths of the region/country on electoral processes such as electronic voting, et al.
“While commending the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for her diligent prosecution of some returning officers in Akwa Ibom State, we urge them to expend the same energy in prosecuting election rigging agents/staff in their midst”.
