YPP dep. guber candidate, 3 others kidnapped along Calabar-Ugep road

Prince Agbor Onyi, the Cross River State Deputy Governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and three other persons have been kidnapped Thursday, March 16 along the Calabar-Ugep highway.

The incident has thrown the state into panic as the kidnappers are yet to make demands on the families for ransom towards their release.

In a related development last week, a university don, Prof. Felix Akpan of the University of Calabar was found dead in his apartment with multiple stabs at his 181 Duke Town close residence behind Mega Hilton, State Housing Estate, Calabar in Cross River State.

Sources who pleaded anonymity told newsmen that Prof. Akpan, a former Dean of Students Affairs at the University of Calabar allegedly had a guest who came to his house on Saturday but left very early on Sunday at about 5.00 am to Akamkpa before his corps was found.

A lady who resides in the same compound said that she heard a scream the same day the visitor who has now been confirmed to be a friend left his apartment and alerted people in the neighborhood about the strange noise.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations officer, SP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident and stressed that arrests have been made and further investigation into the matter was ongoing.

It has been established that the suspect is in police custody who claims to be a friend to the victim who said have denied knowledge of what happened to Prof. Akpan or who stabbed him to death.

Meanwhile, the suspect is believed to have forgotten something in late Prof. Akpan’s house which made him to come back to the apartment where he was apprehended.

It would be recalled that in December 2012, Prof. Akpan, then an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science in the University of Calabar was also attacked at a relaxation joint around Marian Road by gunmen where a security man was shot dead during the tragic incident as he escaped death narrowly.
