YPP receives Senator Akpan Saturday 30, in Uyo as Imo YPP urges youths to save Nigeria’s democracy from oligarchy
The Young Progressive Party (YPP) in Akwa Ibom State is set to officially receive distinguished Senator Bassey Albert into the party.
The event which is billed to take place Saturday 30th July 2022 at Ifa Ikot Akpan, Etoi (off Airport Road),) Uyo by 10. am at Senator Albert Recreational Event Centre, Ifa Ikot Akpan will also witness the inauguration of the State secretariat and campaign office of the distinguished Senator.
This was disclosed by the publicity secretary of YPP, in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Akan Emah in Uyo Friday in a chat with newsmen.
Mr. Emah who gave an insight into the history and formation of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) said the party was founded as a vehicle for social democratic movement, adding that, the ideology of the party is social democracy. “And our slogan is service to the people.”
He went further to state that the party is driven by the passion for improving the welfare of the people “fight for social justice and provide equality of all opportunities for all the citizens in Nigeria.
The party spokesman noted that YPP believes that it is time for a generational shift in leadership revolution that must be driven by highly cerebral, mentally progressive, and innovative leaders without greed in them.
He expressed optimism that the Young Progressive Party is poised to challenge other major political parties, adding that, the party is well positioned to make exploits in next year’s elections and subsequent ones.
On why people are defecting to YPP in droves, he noted that it is because the party believes in equality for all, saying that apart from bringing service to the people, the party, he said, will give credence to the reward system.
Emah said YPP is open to all as signified by the logo of the party which is wide open doors “We believe that everybody that is knowledgeable, equipped and has anything to offer should be our member. And from the pool of that, we bring out the best to use in addressing the economic well-being of the country”.
Obong Bassey Albert (OBA) who was formerly a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recently defected to the YPP in a quest to further his governorship ambition in 2023 and currently serves as Chairman Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources upstream in the 9th Senate
Albert served as Vice President of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), South-South Operations, Commissioner for Finance/Chairman, inter-ministerial Direct labour project, and Chairmen of Senate Committee on Gas Resources in the 8th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He is an Economics graduate from University of Uyo, holds an MBA from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and is a graduate of Harvard Business School.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Young progressive party YPP, in Imo state, Victor Diala has urged youths to save Nigeria’s democracy from Oligarchy as it’s currently making its way into the nation’s leadership.
Speaking in Owerri during the unveiling of Kingsley Kenkwo as the party’s candidate for Okigwe south federal constituency in Imo state, the chairman said the ruling class in Nigeria is now handing over to their children and family members.
He said youths should use the 2023 general election to pass a message that tomorrow is now for them to take over power from incompetent and unfit leaders.
The candidate of the YPP for the Okigwe south federal constituency Kingsley Kenkwo, said he is contesting to ensure quality representation and good governance in the federal constituency.
