Zoning Political Offices in Cross River: Owan Enoh kicks

A frontline politician aspiring for the office of the governor in Cross River State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress Senator John Owan Enoh has condemned the recent attempt to deny contestants in the Central Senatorial District from vying for the position in the 2023 general elections.

The former State House of Assembly member, House of Representatives member, and Senate said since the 24 years of zoning in the state is now completed with Prof. Ben Ayade’s administration from the north, there is no basis for continuing the arrangement other than to open up the political space for aspirants irrespective of their geo-political zones to contest.

He made the remark on Tuesday in Abuja at an interactive forum organized by the Cross River State Journalists Forum (CROSJOF) stressing that APC needed a candidate that is firmly rooted in grassroots politics like him to win the election.

Enoh stressed that he deserves the right of first refusal as an APC candidate for the 2023 governorship election in the state.

Reminiscing the comment of Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba in 2019 when he said “I’m calling for the jettisoning of the rotation formula of the governorship position in Cross River State. I think we have come to the point where every zone in the state has tasted power, so I think we should move beyond that now”, reinforces Enoh’s position. LENS Newspapers published a feature titled ‘ Rotation Formula for Governorship Position in CRS should be Jettisoned_Sen. Ndoma-Egba’, The Lens 12 Sep. 2019, p. 20.

It would be recalled that some of the aspirants like Barrister Chris Agara had earlier rejected the arrangement having been endorsed already by 100 delegates. Another aspirant Pastor Usani Usani also from the Central Senatorial District is yet to endorse the consensus arrangement for Senator (Prince) Bassey Otu to fly the party’s ticket in the 2023 general elections.
