2023 General Elections: Cleric warns against vindictive politicking

As the 2023 elections near, a cleric and the General Overseer of the Apostolic Free Gift of Heaven Ministry, Apostle Bassey Eyo Okon has warned against the spirit of vindictiveness seen among politicians in the country.

Apostle Okon disclosed this on Tuesday while fielding questions from a LENS Reporter at the church auditorium in Calabar South Local Government Area of the state.

He said if the leaders of thought and eminent persons in the country do not intervene by way of enlightenment and deterrent measures instituted to hold culprits accountable, the June 12, 1993 episode may repeat itself in the 2023 elections.

Apostle Okon who is a member of the Chaplaincy Corp and Officer with the Nigeria Hunters and Forestry Security Agency advised politicians with unforgiving spirit to learn from the noble virtue of the former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan who conceded defeat though he had the power to upturn the 2015 elections but instead choose peace because he did not want the country to be thrown into turmoil.

He warned politicians engaging in a war of acrimony against perceived enemies in the political sphere to desist referencing – Proverbs 16:18 “Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall”. He stressed that the momentum should be that of sportsmanship devoid of ethnic and religious colourations which is the preferred template in democratic governance.
