Again, residents of Ikot Uduak community lament neglect of erosion project
Some residents in Ikot Uduak residing around the fringes of the erosion site have continued to complain about the abandonment of the remediation work by the contractor engaged by NEWMAP to solve the ecological menace in the area.
A resident whose entrance has been decimated by erosion denying him access to his house said on condition of anonymity that he will likely petition the EFCC to investigate the reason for the abandonment of the project and call to order with a view to compelling the contractor to complete the project.
LENS contacted the engineer supervising remedial work along the Timber Market axis of the project for comment but he declined saying instead that he is not competent to speak since he is new to the project though promised to address the concerns raised by the aggrieved residents.
Ikot Uduak community in the Calabar Municipal Council Area of Cross River State is an erosion-prone vicinity warranting the Cross River State government in collaboration with the World Bank to intervene in order to reclaim the affected sites.
Meanwhile, efforts to get officials of the Cross River State NEWMAP league to comment on the issue were futile as at the time of filing this report
