ASUU Strike: FG withdraws order mandating VCs to reopen varsities; union defies FG on resumption order, says strike is total, comprehensive

The Federal Government has withdrawn the order mandating vice-chancellors of universities to reopen institutions.

In a circular, the National Universities Commission (NUC), had mandated vice-chancellors, pro-chancellors, and governing councils to re-open federal universities following months of closure due to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)’s strike.

But in a twist, , the NUC issued another circular signed by its Director of Finance and Account, Sam Onazi, withdrawing the order.

Earlier, ASUU had resisted the federal government’s order instructing vice chancellor’s to reopen universities.

According to ASUU Chairman, in the University of Ibadan, Professor Ayoola Akinwole, the union’s strike is total.
