Chimamanda says Soyika’s fascism refference to Datti’s comment wrong; writes Biden, faults US approval of Tinubu as NADECO rebuff
Renowned novelist Chimamanda Adichie expressed her disagreement with Nobel laureate Prof Wole Soyinka over his comments on the Labour Party’s vice presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed.
Adichie stated that Soyinka’s description of Baba-Ahmed’s comments as fascist was a strong word and not appropriate for the situation.
She further elaborated on her stance and stated that the election period had allowed her to read the Nigerian constitution and make suggestions for editing.
Adichie, however, proposed some situations that she believes could be classified as fascist, such as INEC’s actions during the election, which many Nigerians feel cheated and deeply disfranchised by.
Meanwhile, the Coordinator, National Democratic Coalition Renewal Group, Prof. Atilade Ade-eyo has condemned the letter written to United States President, Joe Biden, by Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Adichie, over the February 25 presidential election won by the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Tinubu.
Adichie had in the letter faulted the US for congratulating Tinubu, who she alleged emerged through unlawful process, on the grounds that the election was allegedly fraught with irregularities and violence and as well compromised by the electoral umpire.
But NADECO Renewal, which said Adichie’s outburst betrayed her ethnic bias in a matter of national interest, urged the American president to ignore the letter in its entirety, describing its content as “childish, seditious and illogical.”
