Cleric admonishes students withdrawn from University of Calabar to embrace entrepreneurship

As parents and guardians of hundreds of students ask to withdraw from the University of Calabar lament over the plight of the affected students after spending scarce resources to sponsor them, a clergy and lead pastor of Gospel House, Home of the Gospel Deliverance Ministry International with headquarters in Calabar, Pastor James John has advised the affected students to humble themselves and reposition their lives.

Pastor James said with God nothing is lost and no situation is bad when God is involved and counseled those who have not given their life’s to Christ by forsaking sin and being born-again to do so in order to enjoy the benefit of a new-life referencing Job 22:29 “when men are cast down, then thou shalt say, there is a lifting-up, and He shall save the humble person.”

He sad that the sudden development is a temporary set-back and that God’s commitment to them can not be broken in the counseling program held at the church auditorium on Thursday July 27, 2023.

He urged them to take a cue from the life of Bill Gates who despite his drop-out in his junior year from Harvard University, he at some point became the richest man in the world, notwithstanding his academic setback. He advised the drop-out students to develop their entrepreneurship skills to succeed in life and not to be forced into social vices or contemplate suicide but instead should connect to God in times like this because God is able to restore their destinies. He referenced Jeremiah 17:7 “Blessed is the man that trusted in the lord, and whose hope the LORD is”.

The Vice chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi on Wednesday July 25, 2023 said while fielding questions from newsmen that the withdrawal of hundreds of students by the institution was in line with it’s policies and was ratified by the university’s senate.

She denied allegations that the withdrawal of admissions was targeted at the speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem who was also affected in the exercise and insisted that those withdrawn were admitted during the 2020/2021 academic session.
