Cross River NRM governorship candidate mourns late Adamawa State counterpart
As Nigerians grief, the untimely death of two parties’ gubernatorial candidates as the elections near, the governorship candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) Mr. Patrick Solomon aka “PATSOL” in Cross River State has described the passage of the flag bearer of the party in Adamawa Alhaji Aliyu Maina as tragic at a time his political wit is needed to serve his people.
Solomon while fielding questions from newsmen in Calabar on Friday, January 27, 2023, said his death comes less than 30 days to the general election is a big blow to the party in Adamawa State, and has created a vacuum that is too large to be filled.
Alhaji Maina was reported to have died on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, after a brief illness in Abuja, the same day the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Abia State, Professor Uchenna Ikonne was confirmed dead.
According to the statement from the family, the late Alhaji Abba Maina died on Wednesday, January 25, at his residence in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja after a brief illness.
He has been buried according to the Muslim rite and joined in calling on political and business associates to show late Maina’s family care and love during the mourning period as he appealed to INEC to do the needful according to extant rules in the electoral act to replace credible candidates in both Abia and Adamawa States.
