The village head of Orimekpang in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, Chief Mbayin Ndoma popularly known as Otisco has been allegedly murdered by cultists suspected to be those he sent into exile from the community.
According to his daughter, Stella Ndoma, she was shocked when she learned that her late father who was a traditional ruler was shot to death by hoodlums and the police is yet to arrest anybody in connection with the murder in the community.
It was gathered that some young men in Orimekpang town junction were last year sent into exile by the community for their alleged involvement in cult activities. The development was said to have angered the banished young men who were said to have invaded the community at night and murdered the monarch for sending them into exile.
Stella narrated that an unknown caller asked her late father to leave his home at 12:20 am, claiming some assassins were coming to take away his life which prompted him to flee his home to the community secondary school for refuge while the assailants attacked his house and asked her stepmother the where-about of the chief. But after gunshots were fired she ran to the scene with youths who mobilized with village vigilante to the school premises only to find the corps of the traditional ruler with a note on his corpse inscribed “This is the beginning of the war between the community and us, Any man who squeeze bitter leaf, his hands would be bitter, and anyone who intends to dare us should wait for his turn”.
The Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident and said the police have begun a preliminary investigation in the LGA to fish out the killers in a press statement released on Friday.
