Electric vehicles in spotlight at New York auto show
The New York International Auto Show is set to kick off on Friday with more than 20 automakers from around the world taking part to showcase their latest models.
Electric vehicles are in the spotlight as the US government is offering tax breaks for EVs assembled in North America.
South Korea’s Hyundai and Kia are among the exhibitors. Kia has announced it will start assembling EVs in the United States next year.
Japanese auto giant Toyota will be featuring electric SUV models of its high-end Lexus brand. Nissan and Subaru will also be promoting their EVs.
The New York office of the Japan External Trade Organization says new car sales in the US fell 7.8 percent in 2022 from the previous year, mainly due to rising interest rates for auto loans.
A Nissan North America official said the proportion of EVs in the US market has been rapidly increasing. He said the tax incentives are sure to boost sales.
Auto Shows provide consumers with unprecedented access to all that the auto industry has to offer, and they do it in a unique way that is both engaging and fun.
