Falana says no time in history of Nigeria that Open Grazing was legal across the country, blames Malami for President’s stance

Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN), Mr. Femi Falana has weighed-in on the debate over the legality of open grazing of cattle in Nigeria.

Falana made this disclosure on Wednesday when he featured on an ARISE News programme, The Morning Show, stating that the President’s action with regards to open grazing was based on the counsel offered by Malami.

He cited an earlier feature of President Buhari on a life broadcast on ARISE News, noting that he made it abundantly clear that he could not contradict his attorney general.

“Nigeria’s attorney-general Abubakar Malami should be held responsible for President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to dig up a gazette that delineated cattle grazing routes in all parts of the country in the First Republic,” the senior lawyer stressed.

According to Falana, there has been no time in the history of Nigeria that open grazing was legal around the country. Rather it was a law restricted to the then northern region of country.
