Governor Otu appoints new state council of chiefs chairman

Cross River State Governor Senator Bassey Otu has appointed the Paramount Ruler of Abi Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty Ovai (Elder) Solomon Osim Edward JP, as the new State Council of Chiefs Chairman.

HRM, Edward will replace the former chairman, the Paramount of Bakassi HRH, Etinyin Edet Okon who was recently sacked by the State House of Assembly on grounds of exceeding his two years tenure to ten years contrary to the State’s Traditional Rulers Council’s law.

Otu approved his appointment in a press release made available to journalists by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Anthony Owan-Enoh on Friday, June 21, 2024.

He clarified that the appointment is in pursuant to section 3 of the Council of Chiefs law, Cap C15 Law of Cross River State, 2004.
The release states that the appointment which will run for two years is with immediate effect from the date of the appointment.
