The lawmaker representing Calabar South, Akpabuyo, and Bakassi Federal Constituency in the lower House of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Apostle) Essien Ayi has called for an amicable settlement of the internal crisis rocking the Peoples’ Democratic Party in order not to weaken the chances of the party in the 2023 general elections.

Hon Ayi in a chat with LENS Reporter in Calabar on Tuesday said since PDP is a big family, it is normal that there will always be differences in opinions but assured that PDP has a structure and mechanism working with critical stakeholders to resolve the lingering rift between the camps of Governor Nyesom Wike and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
It would be recalled that Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and three other PDP governors in his camp, – Seyi Makinde (Oyo) Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Samuel Ortom of Benue State have been at loggerheads with former Vice-President and PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s camp over the lopsided composition of the leadership structure of the main opposition party demanding he prevails over the party’s national chairman and former Senate President, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, to resign from his position to give way for a Southerner to create a balance in the Party structure arguing that the two high profile offices should not reside in one section of the country. ,
The NEC of the party is meeting on Wednesday and Thursday to brainstorm with a view to resolving the impasse.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (TINEC) has fixed September 28, 2022. For parties to commence campaigns for the 2023 Elections.
Rt. Hon. Ayi called for the speedy composition of the campaign council as he is contesting the 2023 general elections again to represent Calabar South/Akpabuyo and Bakassi Federal Constituency in National Assembly.
