A middle aged man from Eiebi ward in Ekori community, Yakkur Local Government Area of Cross River State has shot his elder brother name, Ofrekpe on the family oil palm plantation following a dispute over palm fruits last weekend.

The man has been arrested by the police in Cross River State for killing his brother with a gun and cutting off his head and private part.

The daughter of the slain man name Alice told newsmen that the uncle shot her father in the family palm tree plantation where he was packing palm fruits into a bag.

She said the father and her uncle have been quarrelling over who should harvest the palm fruits in their late father’s plantation and he has been warning her father to stay away from the palm trees or he would deal with him but her father did not take him seriously since the palm trees belong to the family.

Speaking further, she said it was a hunter who heard the sound of gunshot in the farm and rushed to the scene only to see her uncle covered in blood and the bag which was beside him had a human head and private parts inside. His alarm attracted other people in the surrounding farms and bushes who rushed to the scene and the man was apprehended and handed over to the police.

In a telephone chat with the Cross River State police spokes person, Supol Irene Ugbo told LENS reporter in a telephone conversation that the man was already in police custody and the investigation is ongoing over the incident that happened on Tuesday May 16, 2023.
