National Day declaration: Senior Citizens appreciate President Buhari

The National Senior Citizens Centre of Nigeria has expressed its profound appreciation and gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for the declaration of October 5 as the National Day of Senior Citizens in Nigeria.

A statement to Voice of Nigeria by the Head of Public Affairs, and media Communication of the agency, Mr. Omini Oden noted that the National Senior Citizens Centre, in line with the International Day of Older Persons, conveys appreciation for the historic presidential policy directive for the progressive registration and identity card issuance for senior citizens.

This will enable dignified access to considerable age-friendly services, discounts, courtesies in public and private places and spaces.

The executive directives according to the statement have immense positive implications, which reflect on Nigeria as a country that now recognises the immense lifetime contributions of Senior citizens, deserving of reciprocity in respect and dignified treatment.

Odion stated that NSCC also recognised and appreciated the relentless efforts of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, in facilitating positive outcomes for senior citizens and is committed to working with the Minister and the appropriate Agencies of Government to deliver the necessary dividends to all senior citizens in Nigeria.

The NSCC act 2018 was signed by President Muhammad Buhari to allow the establishment of the center by institutions and the three tiers of government to cater for the needs of senior citizens in the country.
