A new chairperson for the Cross River State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has emerged after the former chairman was appointed Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Prince Bassey Otu.

Mr. Bassey Archibong of NTA, Channel 9, Calabar was elected to take over from Comrade Nsa Gill, the former NUJ State chairman who was appointed Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to replace Emmanuel Ogbeche who was redeployed to Cross River State Liaison office, Abuja as Senior Special Adviser (SSA) to the Governor on Media and Publicity.

Also elected in the keenly contested election at the Special Congress of the NUJ in Calabar on Thursday May 9, 2024, was Sunny Inah of Cross River Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC) as Vice Chairman, Mike Abang of Correspondent Chapel of Business Day Newspaper as Secretary and Ekong Okpa of Chronicle Newspaper as Financial Secretary. The event was attended by members and veterans in the pen profession.

And by this development, the hitherto leadership vacuum created by the appointment of the former NUJ chairman has been resolved.
