Nigerian cop seeks tripartite synergy in crime fighting
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State, CSP Victor Usang has called on the people of the area to partner with the police and other security agencies in the local government in curbing criminality.
He made the remark in Ikom when the District Superintendent of the Assemblies of God church Ikom, Rev. Paulinus Ekebe, and his team paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
Usang added that he was committed to ensuring the protection of lives and property in the area.
“I call on Ikom residents to work in synergy with the police and other security outfits so that together, we can curb criminalities across the board in Ikom and beyond, ” he said.
The DPO noted that the crime rate in Ikom was very high when he assumed office in October 2021 with kidnapping, ritual killings, and other high calibre criminal activities.
“But today we have been able to curtail some of these criminalities. We have burst the kidnapping gang terrorising Ikom and environs.
“We are also making progress in the area of ritual killings and the situation is under control, ” he said.
He thanked the church for the visit and urged them to pray for continued peace and security in the country.
Speaking, the district Superintendent of the church, commended the DPO for his effort in fighting crime in the area since the assumption of office.
He said this has led to the reduction of crime in Ikom in the past few months.
Ekebe advised the DPO to beam his searchlight on some flashpoints in Ikom where hoodlums and miscreants hide to carry out their nefarious activities such as harassment of residents, forcefully collecting their phones, motorbikes, and other belongings.
