Police committed to public safety_CP Itam

Mr Nnaghe Itam, Commissioner of Police in Anambra has reiterated the command’s commitment to public safety and order during local celebrations of any of the communities in the State.

Itam warned that nobody under any guise should disrupt the peaceful and legitimate activities of Anambra residents.

The police commissioner gave the warning while addressing organisers of the “Imoka” cultural festival on Monday in Awka.

He advised some stakeholders comprising of the Speaker of Eze Uzu Awka Community, representing Igwe Gibson Nwosu, the Palace Secretary of Eze Uzu, the Youth leader, and other stakeholders.

He warned them to ensure that criminal elements, whose intentions are to hide under this guise to commit crimes, do not achieve their goal.

The Police Chief expressed concern that the community failed to inform the command of a festival of such magnitude that is scheduled to start on Tuesday, May 28.

He urged the community to work with the Police to ensure hitch-free celebration.

He encouraged residents, especially Awka indigenes, to be law-abiding, vigilant and security-conscious all the time.

The command, following information received overtime on how miscreants under the guise of celebration of the Imoka festival, become unruly and make life unbearable for the good people of the State.

The Commissioner said that the Command’s commitment in enforcing the law and ensuring public safety is total.

Itam directed the deployment of Police operatives to intensify confidence-building and crime prevention patrols in some identified hot spots in the city.
