Prof. Ene Obong Crescent residents, Ekorinim I, Calabar laments destruction by flood from CRSHA village
Residents of Prof. Ene Obong Crescent in Ekorinim I, Calabar Municipal Council Area, Cross River State have lamented about the destruction of their farmlands and properties by flood allegedly from the Cross River State House of Assembly village in the community.
One of the affected persons whose farmland has been destroyed by the water gushing out from the legislative quarters, Mr. Dickson Kanu Obo who told newsmen at the scene of the destruction that all the crops planted has been washed away and water has submerged his residence thus threatening the foundation of the building added to the bites from mosquitoes breeding in the resulting stagnant water has impacted their health negatively. He said he has written to the Honourable Commissioner of Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi about the environmental hazard in the community and the need for government to address it quickly.
However, investigation has revealed that the water flowing out from the former assembly quarters would not have posed a threat or damage to the affected areas but for the blockade of the only water channel by one Chief Ephraim who they say erected a concrete wall to prevent water from entering his fish pond situated behind the fence separating the structures beyond the sloppy terrain.
Effort to track Chief Ephraim to get his own side of the narrative over the discomfort in the community was futile as at the time of filing this report today.
