Rioters block Lagos-Ibadan expressway over Naira scacity; protests in Lagos
Rioters protesting the crisis over the scarcity of new naira notes and the inability to use the old ones unleashed mayhem Friday on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The section of the road on both lanes in the Ogun State axis was barricaded and some cars and other vehicle types were torched causing a long caravan on both sides of the road.
Also, pockets of riots have hit the streets of Lagos with roadblocks and bonfires. Protesters made bonfires with tires in the Ikorodu area of the state.
The rioters, who blamed the Nigerian government for the hardship in the country, said the scarcity occasioned by the swapping of the new naira notes with the old was dire.
Protesters also stormed the streets in the Isheri-Igando area in Alimosho local government, the largest voting area in Lagos state. Security operatives shot into the air to disperse the protesters.
