Senate President ask Akwa Ibom governor to join APC, commends Senator Akpan

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has described the Akwa Ibom state governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, as a detribalized Nigerian and a statesman, calling on him to cross over to the All Progressive Congress [APC] so as to continue his development strides.

He made the observation during the thanksgiving and inauguration of a Multi-Purpose Recreational complex at Ifa Ikot Akpan in Akwa Ibom state, built by Senator Bassey Albert, the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East, at the National Assembly at the weekend.

Lawan said although the governor belong to a different political platform, the People’s Democratic Party, the APC was not ashamed to ask him to join the party because he is a champion and working in line with the nation’s vision

“Even though we are not on the same political platform, we are waiting for you to come and work with us. You are a champion, we are not ashamed to say come and work with us”, he said.

He commended Senator Albert for always thinking about his people, adding that he is a true Nigerian who is passionate about the development of his country.

“This complex shows how members of the national assembly care for their constituents. This facility will be resourceful in developing both physical and mental health. This project is massive and we are proud of Senator Albert. We are accountable to the people and we must constantly engage them in our legislation duties.

“We are here to thank God for Senator Albert for what he has done today, this multipurpose facility which is not only for sports but also an educational facility. Albert has done something that remains indelible in my mind. He never cares about political parties but he cares about the development of the country.

“This facility shows that members of the National Assembly take care of their constituents first because they voted him and we are proud of the three Senators from this state. Akwa Ibom North-East sent a focused gentle-man to the national assembly, despite party affiliation, he always pushes for collaboration with his colleagues to work for the good of Nigeria, Albert is a partner in the development of Nigeria.

In his remark, Senator Bassey Albert noted that it was good to show appreciation to God at all times once one sees His goodness upon his life. According to him, there is nothing like coming out to thank God in the congregation of His people especially if a man found favour from God; adding that, that he was one of those God has blessed.

“This God has shown me much mercy. I will not be able to count the many blessings of this God upon my life. If God has blessed you to be a blessing to another person, then God has blessed you”, he said.

Earlier, the state governor, Udom Emmanuel, said he was proud of the performance of Senator Albert, noting that, God has used him to do many things for his people, especially the building of the multipurpose facility.

“I thank God for today, it could have been a different story, we are proud of our brother Senator Bassey Albert Akpan for what God has used him to do. This is more of a homecoming, coming back to give an account of stewardship. This multi-purpose facility should bring peace and development to our people. I must commend Senator Albert for this vision, as a leader of the National assembly caucus, he has led by example”.

He, therefore, called on the people to make good and proper use of the facility for their self-development, warning that, the constituents and indeed all that would make use of the facility should not abuse it.

The multi-purpose recreational complex has facilities such as a 1,500 capacity event hall, ICT center, skills acquisition center, children’s playground, standard football pitch, lawn tennis court, and basketball court.
