Ukrainian military to be trained by Colombian military engineers on demining landmines

Colombia’s defense ministry on Monday announced it will dispatch a team of demining experts to train Ukrainian troops.

Colombia, a NATO partner, reportedly made the decision at the request of US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

Eleven Colombian military engineers will be dispatched to a NATO member neighboring Ukraine.

Russian forces have reportedly planted landmines across Ukraine, endangering the lives of residents.

Colombian defense minister Diego Molano said his nation will use its expertise and knowledge to support Ukraine’s effort to eliminate the landmine danger.

Colombia is said to be one of the world’s most heavily mined due to a decades-old internal conflict. Since 1990, landmines there have killed more than 2,300 people and injured nearly 10,000.
