G5 governors attend Makinde’s re-election campaign, silent on preferred presidential candidate
The five aggrieved governors of the People’s Democratic Party also known as the G-5 have declared support for the second-term reelection of Seyi Makinde of Oyo state.
The governors wearing uniforms that included a flowing brown and white striped robe and a matching cap arrived Thursday at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan the state capital in a black minibus at 1:03 PM, to the loud screams of thousands of their followers who had been waiting for them for hours. Their mission was to solidarise with the Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on his re-election campaign flag-off.
Also part of the entourage were former governors Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo) and Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti), who also wore the customised outfit worn by the G5 governors.
But this is as the G-5, remains silent on which presidential candidate to support at the coming presidential election on February 25.
Leader of the G-5, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state told the party supporters that Governor Makinde will subsequently communicate the position of the five governors to them.
This came against the expectation of the party supporters who had in their thousands attended the flag-off in Ibadan to know the position of the G-5 on the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Members of the G-5 Governors in their separate submissions commended Governor Makinde for fulfilling his 2019 election promises to the people by transforming the state in terms of economy and infrastructure.
Governor Seyi Makinde in his remarks expressed his appreciation to the people and party faithful for entrusting the destiny of the state under his care assuring that more developmental projects and programmes will be witnessed in the state if reelected for another term of four years.
The Governor who boasted of increasing the state’s internally generated revenue from about N1.7 billion to N3.8 billion as of November ending promised to do more for the people of the state.
Meanwhile, The All Progressives Congress (APC) says no amount of fake news can save Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from defeat in the 2023 general elections.
APC spokesperson in the state, Olawale Sadare, said in a statement on Tuesday in Ibadan, that PDP was behind the spread of fake news purportedly issued by one Bashir Adeola, a chieftain of APC in the state.
